Let's draw a face for the monster
Draw a face on the lumpy, faceless monster. A monster that isn’t scary, or one that’s just plain silly, is fine — and so is one with three eyes.

Questions to ask your child
- What’s the monster’s name?
- What does this monster like?
- How could you become friends with it?
Adjust for your child’s age
- Around age 4
- One round eye and one big smiling mouth already make a lovable monster.
- Ages 6–7
- Have them decide on features — number of eyes, horns, teeth, fur — and make a monster profile card with a name tag.
After drawing: try this
Whenever something scary comes to mind, try drawing it as a silly monster to help make the fear feel smaller.
Try it together
- Use the lines of the sketch as a starting point and let your child decide the shapes, colors and how many. The key is not to draw it for them.
