Let's decorate the unicorn's mane
This unicorn has no mane or tail yet. Let your child decorate a one-of-a-kind mane however they like — rainbow colors, stars, even a mane made of flowers.

Questions to ask your child
- What color is the mane?
- Where does the unicorn live?
- What power does its horn have?
Adjust for your child’s age
- Around age 4
- Draw several wavy lines down the back of its neck and color them in different colors.
- Ages 6–7
- Match the mane and tail with the same pattern, and draw a background for where the unicorn lives.
After drawing: try this
Cut yarn or ribbon and glue it onto a paper unicorn to make its mane.
Try it together
- Use the lines of the sketch as a starting point and let your child decide the shapes, colors and how many. The key is not to draw it for them.
